Marketing
October 29, 2008. Marketing. The very word inspires terror.
I’m researching marketing today, and I already have a headache. And it’s not even my stuff. What is it about promotions that give me the screaming heebie-jeebies?
Whatever it is, I would like to do things differently this time. Writing press releases, researching reviewers, posting announcements…none of this is exactly rocket science, right? I’ve been blogging now for a while, and I seem to be more than capable of stringing a bunch of words together and mostly having them make sense.
I think part of the challenge for me is knowing that my stuff is next. I’m currently helping to market some of my business partner’s product. Specifically, a novel. An awesome novel.
Part of what we’re doing for it is making the audio version available for download. Guess who’s reading the audio version?
Yeah.
Me.
All of the sudden, it’s not just my partner’s stuff, is it? I’m putting myself on the line. I’m promoting myself. Getting my work out there.
Yikes!
That is NOT okay.
But isn’t it exactly what I want? I love what I’m doing right now. I so enjoy speaking someone else’s words. Especially when they are so well written. I also love to have others hear my interpretation of those words.
So, the podcast for this week will be slightly different than usual. This week’s installment will be a portion of Carolyn McCray’s new novel, Plain Jane, as read by Ben Hopkin.
You’ll all have to let me know what you think!

Can hardly wait!!!!!!!
