Here We Go…
October 30, 2008. It’s up. Plain Jane’s prologue, written by my friend and business partner Carolyn McCray and narrated by yours truly, is out there for anyone that wants to hear it.
Yyrrrck…wazzzit…hafala…moog.
Ahem.
Sorry about that. Technical difficulties.
That, in case you were wondering, was the sound of my brain fritzing. It’s one thing to talk about doing scary things. It is quite another to actually do them. I’m excited and terrified at the same time.
Remember when I said that as actors we have to get comfortable being uncomfortable? Well, I’ve succeeded. At least for the day.
I’m not sure why this is so pulse-pounding for me. I’ve had my work critiqued by some of the best of the best. I’ve played to huge sold-out crowds. I’ve seen my work up on the big screen. Why should an audio version of a book scare me like this?
Perhaps because of my personal involvement. I helped edit the novel. Some of my ideas are in there. Not many, but some. I have a personal stake in the success of this book.
But that doesn’t really explain it. I didn’t have this reaction when Plain Jane showed up on Amazon.com. It was when my voice reading the prologue was uploaded that I had my response.
I think it’s maybe akin to the butterflies any actor gets before they walk onstage or get in front of the camera. Only it’s multiplied, because I’ve never done this before.
Whatever it is, I’m putting my money where my mouth is. Hope you like it!

Great job on the reading and on facing your fears! Kudos!
