Traveling

November 26, 2008.  I love traveling, especially by car.  I know this sounds slightly insane, but it’s true.  It reminds me of my childhood.  My grandparents lived about a 24-trip away from us, and we made that trek quite a bit.

We’re traveling out to see my brother and sister-in-law and my nephew.  My parents and grandmother will be there as well.  My brother and his family lived in New Hampshire until just recently, so now that they’re close, it just seemed like a perfect time to share Thanksgiving with them.

When I traveled as a child, we had a bed that my dad had built in the back of our van.  We would crash there while my parents took turns driving through the night.

Laws have changed considerably since then, but they didn’t have portable DVD players, iPods or GameBoys.

Still, my favorite part of trips was sitting up front with my mom or my dad and just talking.  So, as we take this trip out to visit family, I’ll do what I can to give my kids wonderful traveling memories that they can treasure.

I’m taking another trip right now.  It’s the journey towards artistic and financial success.  That’s a pretty amazing destination, right?  Funny thing is, I keep forgetting that the destination isn’t the only part.  The journey is pretty amazing, too.

I love to travel.

Nice reminder that I’m actually very happy right now.

And thankful.
