Acting Without the Drama

December 24, 2008.  After weeks and weeks of planning, the shopping is finally done.

Well, you would think so.

We don’t go all out for Christmas, but we do like to put together some pretty awesome stockings.  All the little things together just seem to make Christmas morning that much more magical.  Little surprises that you discover one by one as you sort through the boot-shaped receptacle.

Sometimes the subtle little details mean more than the big huge moments.  A quiet moment of realization for a character onstage or on camera can do more for an audience than the hysterical weeping.

I think life is that way, too.  The small details of our lives say more than the big dramatic moments.

I’m not sure how I feel about that, honestly.  I like the big dramatic moments.  But I know how it feels to be the recipient of the accumulation of the details.

I go with the details any day of the week.
