And the Award Goes to…Hugh Jackman!

February 22, 2009.  So, I watched the Oscars and very much enjoyed them.

Woo hoo!!

I haven’t had much, if any, residual blowback from any feelings of jealousy.  Partially because I think for the first time I openly acknowledged to myself just how much I want to be there.  And that it’s okay that I want to be there that much.

But what I really want to talk about is how much respect I have for Hugh Jackman.

First off, I love the fact that he brought back a feel of old Hollywood to the Oscars.  But what really got me was his interview with Barbara Walters that was aired after the show.  The love and respect he showed for both his disciplinarian father and his mother that left was, to me, a testament to his just being a classy guy.  I’ve always thought he was a good actor.  It was nice to see the deeper side of him when he teared up talking about his father seeing him perform at Carnegie Hall.

Honorable mentions go to Anne Hathaway and Mickey Rourke.  Two VERY different people, two VERY different paths, two VERY interesting people (I think).

One of the other things I loved about tonight’s show (although it was occasionally a little hit-and-miss) was the former Oscar winners speaking to the nominees.  I’ve always felt a bit bad for those that went home without the award, but tonight there were some truly touching moments as those that have been there before spoke to those waiting to find out if they’d be there tonight.

All in all, a wonderful evening.  Not perfect.  Not epic.  Just very pleasant.

And not being there meant that I could get a snack whenever I wanted.  Oh, and not having to wear a tux.

Yeah.  It was a good time.
