Acting Without the Drama

February 21, 2009.  The Oscars are tomorrow.

I have historically had trouble watching awards shows for acting.  I want to see who wins.  I love the shows themselves.  I do, however, get a bit depressed after (or while) watching them.

That green-eyed monster rears its ugly head again.

But jealousy is just a road map.  I want to go there.  I want to work with those actors.  I want to be a part of that celebration of our art.

Ok.

Does it have to be a fight against depression every time I watch?

So, this year, I’d like to do it differently.  I would like to be a part of the joy of that celebration, even though I’m doing it from my living room.  I would like to feel better after watching, rather than worse.  I would like to see it as an affirmation that I love what I do, rather than proof positive that I’m still not where I want to be yet.

So…here’s to the Oscars!
