Sleep-overs

March 28, 2009.  So, last night my oldest son had a sleep-over for his birthday.  They ate pizza, cake, candy and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning watching movies, having pillow fights and playing video games.  They had a blast.

Then comes the aftermath.

I don’t drink, but I’m assuming that it’s something akin to a hang-over.  The upset stomach, the exhaustion, the crankiness, the sensitivity to light.  And that’s me that I’m talking about.

The kids are fine.  They’re super resilient.  Ah, the endless energy of youth.  They’re a bit crankier than normal, but nothing big.  It’s me that suffers the lingering effects of their party.  And I didn’t even eat the stuff they were chowing down on.  No fair.

I have to say, though, it was worth it.  At one point, I overheard the statement, “This is the best party ever!”  I think it may have been my son that said it.  Regardless, it was really great to hear.

We make sacrifices for what we love.  This applies to the people in our lives, and it also applies to our art.

Just a little note for the following week:  are we willing to sacrifice for what we love?  If we aren’t, are we really sure that we love it?

  1. I have had more than one ‘fun’ hang-over, so I know how you feel! Glad your son had a great party!
